Career and Technology Education Programs (CTE)

-Funded through Perkins Grant

What is CTE?

Career and technical programs prepares students for successful careers and further education by providing the technical knowledge and skills that are aligned with academic standards. Career and technical programs enable students to gain entry-level employment in a high-skill, high-wage job and/or to continue their education. These programs can offer students the opportunity to earn college credit while in high School.

What is Dual Credit?

Dual Credit courses allow students the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school.  The CTE Department offers several courses for dual credit taught by certified teachers to high school juniors and seniors who qualify to take these classes.

Coastal Bend College (CBC) and Kenedy ISD have established a partnership to provide opportunities for eligible students from Kenedy High School to enroll in dual Credit/concurrent classes at CBC.  Visit the Coastal Bend Office of Dual Enrollment for enrollment forms, academic calendars, course offering/schedules, cost, and much more at: http://www.coastalbend.edu/dualcredit/

Visit with your high school counselor for eligibility requirements, class locations, tuition, fees, books, supplies, and Bacterial Meningitis information

CTE State Plan and Goals

The State Plan for Career and Technical Education is focused on improving the academic and technical educational opportunities for students, including rigorous and relevant for career preparation.  The State Plan for CTE has been developed with the understanding that an academic education and technical education are compatible concepts and the academics are reinforced and applied through a high quality, rigorous technical education.

The State Plan for Career and Technical Education is based on four (4) goals.  The public education systems must take immediate action by addressing the following challenges:

  • Recognizing the unique needs of a diverse student population
  • Preparing students for college and career success
  • Providing students with a quality education that prepares them to be competitive within a global economy
  • Recruiting and retaining qualified teachers
