Dress and Grooming (All Grade Levels) - 2025-2026
The district’s dress code teaches grooming and hygiene, prevents disruption, and minimizes
safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming
standards, provided that they comply with the following:
• Clothing and belts may not have inappropriate or offensive messages.
• Pants/jeans may not show skin or underwear above fingertip length. Jeans with holes
above fingertip length must be worn with leggings underneath.
• Pajama Pants are prohibited.
• Leggings may be worn if the shirt/top is no shorter than fingertip length.
• Dresses, skirts and shorts must be no shorter than fingertip length.
• Shirts must cover the chest, waist, navel, abdomen, back, and the top of shoulders.
• All head coverings (hoodies, caps, hats, beanies, etc.) may not be worn in the building. If
worn at school, they will be picked up and returned to parents.
• Appropriate shoes must be worn at all times. House shoes are prohibited.
• Piercings are only permitted in the ear and nose. Gauges, spikes, rods, or hoops (nose
only) are prohibited.
• Beards, goatees, and mustaches are not allowed. Face must be clear of facial hair.
• Outlandish/distracting haircuts or colors are not allowed. Hair color must be natural in
color.
• Sunglasses may not be worn indoors.
• Inappropriate or offensive tattoos must be covered.
• Specialized activities may require a specialized dress code during the activity.
The principal has discretion to deem a student dress/grooming as appropriate,
inappropriate, or offensive.
If the principal determines that a student’s grooming or clothing violates the school’s dress code,
the student will be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school and return to the
classroom. If the problem cannot be corrected at school, the principal will work with the student
and parent to obtain an acceptable change of clothing for the student in a way that minimizes loss
of instructional time.
Repeated or severe offenses may result in more serious disciplinary action in accordance with the
Student Code of Conduct.
